About Teaching Mathematics: A K-8 Resource, 3rd Edition ReviewThis book is required reading for a class I am taking called "Diagnosis and Remediation of Math Learning Disabilities" at Teachers College. This is a very nice book. Sometimes, I think the professors here make us buy too many books, but I have actually read and used this one. It has many fun games and activities for grade K-8. These activities engage their interest and/or make abstract concepts more concrete. I have used the activities as extra-credit projects for my 9th grade math class. Some of the activities are challenging, even for a ninth grader. If you bought only one book for the class, this would be it.About Teaching Mathematics: A K-8 Resource, 3rd Edition OverviewA compendium of more than 240 classroom-tested lessons, this essential resource helps teachers build student understanding and skills and understand how children best learn math. In this third edition, Marilyn Burns has completely revised the first section to reflect what she has learned over the years from her classroom experience with students and her professional development experience with teachers. This section has also been expanded to address these important topics: teaching math vocabulary, incorporating writing into math instruction, linking assessment and instruction, and using children's literature to teach key math concepts. In an entirely new section, Marilyn addresses a wide range of questions she has received over the years from elementary and middle school teachers regarding classroom management and instructional issues.
