Let's say that I was having trouble "redirecting students who are off task." Off the top of my head, I can come up with a few ideas. Paging through notes from my methods classes, I can find a couple more. Well, I turn to page 94 of THE FIRST-YEAR TEACHER'S CHECKLIST, and find a list of two dozen ideas. Am I going to use each one? No. But, it would have taken years for me to think of all of these.
