Teaching Emergent Readers: Collaborative Library Lesson Plans ReviewThis book is a set of lesson plans that are tied to forth or so common books aimed at the beginning reader. For each book the author presents activities for the:
library media specialist: Schema, Discussion Areas, Discussion about the physical book, i.e. what's contained on the title page;
the teachers: Phonics, Comprehension, Recall, some writing activities which are the beginning of book reviews later in school;
finally a parents page where the teacher can send home a review of what they have done with some suggestions as to how the parents might help their children continue the study at home.
I have not checked all the books discussed in this one, but all the ones that I did were available at Amazon.com. This includes:
And I Mean It, Stanley
Aunt Eater Loves a Mystery
Aunt Eater's Mystery Vacation
Biscuit Goes to School
Danny and the Dinosaur
Oliver
Scruffy.
In summary, this book is a professional look at using commonly available introductory books to get the maximum amount of benefit out of them.Teaching Emergent Readers: Collaborative Library Lesson Plans Overview
